What is vulvar disease?
A vulvar disease is an abnormal pathological condition that affects part or all of the vulva. Some known problems of the vulvar area are:
- Vaginitis or vulvovaginitis, swelling or infection of the vulva and vagina.
- Skin problems due to allergy.
- Vulvodynia, or vulvar pain.
- Vulvar precancers e.g. VIN, Paget’s disease
- Vulvar cancer
Treatment for these conditions may include medicated creams or ointments, vaginal tablets, prescription pills or injections. For vulvar precancers, treatment may include medications or surgery. For vulvar cancers, the treatment will likely involve surgery and/or radiotherapy.
