How does a fertility specialist plan your IUI procedure?
Is the time right? During ovulation, one ovary from either side will release an egg. The egg will travel down the fallopian tube to be fertilised by the sperm. In Intrauterine insemination (IUI), the route for the sperm to reach the egg is shortened. The timing of ovulation is important to ensure that sperm is inseminated at the right time. Fertilisation must occur in the fallopian tube so that the fertilised egg can move into the uterus for implantation. If the fertilised egg implants either in the fallopian tube, the cervix or abdominal cavity, it may lead to ectopic pregnancy and miscarry.
