Prenatal visits are essential for maintaining a healthy pregnancy. The visit to gynae can determine the number of weeks you are pregnant and estimate the delivery date. During these visits, your gynae will examine and monitor the growth and development of your baby. Body weight, blood pressure, blood and urine tests are some of the items that are closely monitored to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

The need for nutrients intake increases when you are pregnant. Prenatal vitamins are specially formulated to ensure that the increase in demand for essential nutrients are met during pregnancy. These are multivitamins which contains calcium, iron and folic acids. You should check with your doctor regarding any medication (including over- the-counter medication) to ensure that they are safe to consume during pregnancy.

 

Avoid toxic substances

Toxic substances such as tobacco use and alcohol consumption should be avoided as they are associated with adverse effects on the mother and baby. You should also be cautious with the exposure of second-hand smoke. Smoking may lead to a higher risk of miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies, premature births, and etc.
