Is the timing right? During ovulation, one ovary releases an egg that travels down the fallopian tube, aiming to be fertilised by sperm. In Intrauterine insemination (IUI), the path for sperm to reach the egg is shortened, increasing the chances of fertilisation. Timing ovulation correctly is crucial to ensure that sperm is inseminated at the right moment. Fertilisation needs to occur in the fallopian tube, allowing the fertilised egg to move into the uterus for implantation. If implantation occurs in the fallopian tube, cervix, or abdominal cavity, it could lead to an ectopic pregnancy, resulting in miscarriage.
An experienced fertility specialist, such as Dr. Chua Ka-Hee, Dr. Lily Kho Chye Lee, and Dr. Yu Su Ling at Alpha IVF Centre & Alpha Women’s Specialists, will carefully assess and plan the IUI procedure based on individual circumstances. They will monitor your ovulation cycle to determine the best time for insemination, ensuring the highest chances of successful fertilisation.
