A new co-funding scheme for Pre-implantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic / Single Gene Defects (PGT-M) and Chromosomal Structural Rearrangements (PGT-SR) was recently introduced as part of the Government’s effort to support couples in their parenthood journey with effect from 1st July 2022. This scheme will provide financial support for eligible couples who wish to conceive but are at risk of transmitting serious inheritable diseases to their offspring [1].
As its name implies, PGT is a testing for genetic abnormalities of the embryo prior to implantation to the womb during IVF process. This enables the selection of healthy embryos for transfer into the womb and ensures that the offspring does not inherit undesirable genetic abnormalities or diseases. If you wish to learn more about PGT-M, PGT-SR and who may benefit from PGT, click here.
Depending on the citizenship status of the couple, clinically eligible couples with at least one Singaporean spouse can receive up to 75% co-funding by the government, subjected to co-funding caps. Each couple will be eligible for up to six co-funded cycles of PGT-M or PGT-SR. You may visit here to find out the eligibility criteria for PGT co-funding.
